A WORLD Cup hero visited Northallerton to sign copies of his latest book.
Sir Geoff Hurst appeared at Ottakar's Bookstore, on Northallerton High Street on Wednesday to sign copies of World Champions.
The book is about the summer of 1966 when Sir Geoff and his team-mates captured the sport's biggest prize by beating West Germany in the final.
Fans can relive all the action on and off the pitch as Sir Geoff talks training, tactics, team camaraderie and pre-match rituals - plus what is was like to score a hat -trick in the final.
The queue of people waiting for Sir Geoff to sign their books was out of the door and began at about 11am, although the woman who was first in the queue had turned up at 7.30am.
Floor manager Lucy Wright said the event was very successful.
She said: "It went brilliantly. He was really lovely and we had a very good day. We haven't got any official figures yet but we think over 200 copies were sold."
She said people from all age groups attended the event from young football fans to those who remember Sir Geoff scoring his famous goals in 1966.
