| Back in squad: Mathew Tait |
WOLSINGHAM rugby star Mathew Tait has been called up to the England squad that will travel to Australia next month.
The 20-year-old, who honed his skills at Barnard Castle school, has been selected on the back of his outstanding performances in the Commonwealth Games, earlier this year. It is the second time that the Newcastle Falcons centre has been called up to the squad, having made his international debut in the Six Nations against Wales last year.
However, after being dropped following defeat in that game, he has now returned to head coach Andy Robinson's 30-man party.
He said: "It's fantastic to be back involved with England again. It's been a major goal of mine and I just hope to make the most of any chances that come my way."
The Wolsingham-born player, whose brother Alex plays for England Under-18s, hopes to start in both games of the two-test tour, as well as this month's friendly against Barbarians.
