This is me - community art on display

ARTISTS young and old are getting a taste of fame this week with a community exhibition at a well-known art centre.

Amateur artists, from three to 73, are showing off some of their prized work at the week-long display, called This Is Me.

The exhibition is the result of a ten-month project in which more than 300 people from Neighbourhood Renewal Areas in Stockton put their creative talents to the test.

They designed an array of works, including film drama, stained glass mosaic, puppetry, textiles, drawing and photography, which went on show on the community display wall at Arc in the town on Monday.

The variety of visual and performance work has been designed to coincide with the Celebrate Renaissance event in Stockton this week, which is aimed at highlighting the council's work and objectives.

The artwork, which was created during workshops by local artists and the arts development team in the Newtown, Ragworth, Albany, Portrack and Tilery areas, will be on display until Friday.

Councillor Jean O'Donnell, Stockton Borough Council's cabinet member for arts, leisure and culture, said: "It is wonderful to see how a project like this can bring generations across the board together.

"The artwork is interesting to people of all ages and I would recommend residents go along to Arc and see it for themselves."

To find out more about the artwork and remaining workshops, call Gill Adams, arts development officer, on (01642) 526466.
