Crocheted chess set still on display

AN exhibition of textile creations, including a crocheted chess set, will be on display until the end of the week.

Black and White and Technicolour is a collection of almost 100 carefully crafted items by members of the Durham Guild of Spinners and Weavers.

The exhibition is at the McGuinness Gallery, at Bishop Auckland Town Hall, until Saturday, from 10am to 4pm.

On Wednesday, there will be an open day with demonstrations by members from 10am to 3pm.

Exhibits such as quilted bedspreads, woven cashmere scarves, felt jewellery and the chess set, each illustrate the skill that goes into every creation.

Many of the items exhibited are for sale.

The guild was founded in 1979 and is affiliated to the National Association of Guilds of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers. It holds regular meetings, workshops and exhibitions and its 40 members meet each month in St Oswald's Institute, Durham.
