Three textile artists unite for exhibition

A GROUP of textile artists have launched an exhibition of their unique works of art.

Julia Triston, Rachel Lombard and Karen Shefford, who make up The Verge, are staging their first joint display at The Store, in Dipton, County Durham.

It comprises pictures, wall hangings, jewellery boxes, and cards.

All three artists have exhibited work elsewhere in the country.

Ms Triston said: "Every piece is a one-off and unique. We also take commissions if people like what they see. My theme is faces. I have incorporated masks, make-up and mosaics in my work on the human face.

"I use recycles materials, usually of very bright colours, and machine embroider and hand stitch my work."

Ms Lombard has based her work on studies of iron fencing at Beamish, looking at rust and patterns, while Ms Shefford has looked at pathways and tiles, using a patching and piecing technique.

Ms Triston said the works were reasonably priced and would make ideal Christmas gifts.
