Alan Wright
Wright on Travel by Alan Wright Alan's biography

What's another year?
This will be my last column here before, appropriately, travelling elsewhere, and it seems an appropriate time to look back on the last twelve months in the world of travel.

A big surprise in the woods
In search of an ideal family holiday destination which was an easy drive from their North East home, Chris and Caroline Wright (along with junior reporter Joshua) headed for the Netherlands....

A victory at Trafalgar
I've had a lifetime's attachment to Trafalgar Square which dates back to early childhood and my favourite jigsaw featuring Nelson's Column and the famous lions. Long before I ever visited the capital, I had a clear vision in my head of one of the most famous open spaces in the world.

Added attractions on sea cruise
There's a whole travel market out there which most of the public don't see, it's worth millions - and it's all about MICE!

In touch when travelling
There are some curious myths around in the world of travel; the chief one being that people are travelling much less in the light of the series of global problems in recent years. The real figures show, not surprisingly really, that people are still hitting the road in large numbers, largely because of the demands of business as well as leisure.

A new world - and a cheaper one
The speed of new services from Teesside Airport is becoming quite breathtaking with BmiBaby (still British Midland to me) adding to the goodies from Ryanair.

A winning response
If you're a regular reader, you'll remember our splendid competition earlier this year with the prize of a real VIP weekend for two in London. Courtesy of Le Meridien Hotels, GNER and the Our House musical, our lucky couple were due for a weekend of real style. The fortunate winners were Michael and Debbie Livermore, and this is their report:

Come fly with me - cheaply
It's hard to believe just how quickly the market in air fares has changed in this country. Through a combination of legislation, inertia and customer powerlessness, fares stayed artificially high, but how things have changed!
