Epidemic inquiry to visit North-East
Euro MPs leading the inquiry into last year's
foot-and-mouth epidemic will visit the region next week to
speak to the farming community about the Government's
handling of the crisis.
Plea for evidence on virus effects

foot-and-mouth outbreak, which will be presented to
European leaders.

Farmers are facing a nervous
weekend waiting to learn whether foot-and-mouth disease has
struck the region again. Initial tests on samples taken
from a suspect cow at High Worsall, near Yarm, came back
negative yesterday, but this will not be confirmed until
further results on Monday or Tuesday. Farms within five
miles of the premises are unable to move livestock.
