MEPs to meet farmers after disease crisis
Members of the European Parliament's foot-and-mouth committee will meet farmers in the region today to discuss the Government's handling of the crisis.

Livestock classes at the premier event in the North's agricultural calendar are expected to be as full and popular as ever this year.

Call for rethink on hostel closure
A delegation meets bosses from the Youth Hostel Association next week in an attempt to prompt a rethink on the future of one of the charity's outposts.

Show cancelled
The largest display of rare breed farm livestock in Europe has been forced to cancel for the second year in a row because of foot-and-mouth disease. Organisers of the National Rare Breeds' Show and Sale, held at the National Agricultural Centre, Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire, said staging the event would be too difficult under rules introduced after last year's outbreak.


Tuesday 16th April

Disease all-clear
Tests for foot-and-mouth disease at a farm in North Yorkshire have proved negative, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs said last night. A ban on livestock movements in a five mile radius of the farm, at High Worsall, near Yarm, has been lifted.


Monday 15th April

Successful show puts riding school back in the saddle
A riding school which was forced to shut because of the foot-and-mouth crisis has bounced back with a show which surpassed all expectations yesterday.
