Making A Difference

Show us how your group is Making a Difference

Making A DifferenceThe competition is really hotting up for The Northern Echo's community environmental competition, Making A Difference.

Making A Difference is in its fifth year and is sponsored by regional development agency One NorthEast.

The competition is aimed at voluntary groups whose work improves life for other people.

The closing date is Friday next week, August 15, and the latest batch of entries have underlined the high standard.

They include:

Darlington Rural Watch, which has brought together people living and working in the rural areas around the town to combat crime and anti-social behaviour.

Morley Farm Wetland Project, at Brancepeth, near Durham, where volunteers working with Durham Bird Club, the Hedgerow Partnership and Durham Wildlife Trust are creating a habitat for birds.

Richmond Pride, in North Yorkshire, with volunteers tackling problems such as litter, dog waste and graffiti.

The History Group at Quarrington Hill Community Centre, Durham, which is tidying up the local churchyard.

Cable, in the Cockerton and Branksome areas of Darlington, which carries out a range of schemes to help the community.

The competition is open to groups or individuals involved in voluntary work. After the closing date, judges will visit a shortlist of three schemes.

The winner receives £500 and two-runners-up will also receive prizes.

Former entries are welcome because it gives them the chance to show the judges how their projects have progressed.

If you wish to nominate your scheme, simply print out the entry form, complete it with as much information as you want, and post it back to us by August 15.

Entry forms will also be printed in The Northern Echo.
