Last updated: Tuesday 5 August 2003 Hall's well in GuisboroughI was in Guisborough at the weekend and took the chance to re-acquaint myself with the re-birth of Gisborough Hall, just around the corner from the High Street. Originally built in 1857 as the family home of Baron Gisborough, it had serious money spent on it not too long ago to upgrade it to a top class residential hotel and conference centre. Sounds of the Sixties "Only connect" said E M Forster, and this week's connection came between two events over 250 miles apart, in Eaglescliffe and Knightsbridge. Car park life I had a most curious moment at a local hotel yesterday (stop it at the back) and I'd be grateful for your help with an explanation. A hat trick of excellence in Barny Now here's something to celebrate: beautiful scenery, a unique theatrical experience, and superlative accommodation - and all here in County Durham. Postal frustrations -- and Wimbledon failures Amid constant talk of modernisation and improvement in public services, elements of the Royal Mail and the Post Office still have aspects which are very hard to fathom. A lunatic licence, a comedy contrast, and a mayoral challenge The recent news that more resources are going to be wasted on detection methods to find TV licence evaders made me cringe. It's stupidity piled on wastefulness and laced with idiocy. You'll gather that I don't support the move.
