Wind farms are becoming a growing feature of the countryside in the North-East and North Yorkshire. And as the number of turbines grows, so does the debate. There seems to be no middle ground and wind farms bring out strong opinions from supporters and critics alike.

The number of wind farms is expected to increase in coming years because Prime Minister Tony Blair wants to see environmental protection forming a plank of Labour's manifesto for the election expected next May. This manifesto is expected to include a firm pledge to boost renewable energy and build more wind farms.
