![]() Wind farm approvedby Gavin Havery PLANS for a wind farm have been approved, despite more than 20 objections. A planning application for five turbines in the village of Royal Oak, near Shildon, County Durham, was approved by Darlington Borough Council yesterday. The plans by EDF Energy sparked outrage among residents and concerns were raised by the Ministry of Defence that the turbines could interfere with the radar system at RAF Leeming, North Yorkshire . Despite the council receiving 23 letters of objection and residents forming a protest group, work will soon start on the 25-year project. The planning committee said it was approving the plans but consultation with the MoD, which is now happy for the project to proceed, would continue. Published October 20, 2005
