Meet Beckham - or should that be young Bare Rabbit
29/03/2000

Beckham bunnyWhen this Beckham was looking forward to the company of a bunch of bunny girls with a wild streak - but Posh Spice had nothing to worry about.

For the clean shaven male in question was Beckham the bunny, named after the Manchester United star, David, because both had a close crop.

The pet was based at the Bunny Burrows sanctuary, where he was due to be joined by the Spice Girls.

Gwen Butler, who has established herself as region's leading rabbit rescue and re-homing expert, said: "I was contacted by the RSPCA who had a long-haired cashmere dwarf lop needing a suitable home.

"But they said his hair was badly matted and he needed a shave. When I picked him up I was quite surprised. I have never seen a bunny so naked.

"He had no hair at all and had a little rod for a tail with only a tuft of fur on top of his head.

"I took one look at him and thought he was a star - and there was only one name for him David Beckham, after the footballer's haircut."

Gwen, of Richmond, North Yorkshire, who rehouses rabbits from all over the north of England said Beckham would be given a chance to grow his hair again before being allowed to go.

She was also expecting a delivery of seven babies from Hull, who she is planning to name after the Spice Girls, including the real David Beckham's wife, Victoria "Posh Spice" Adams.
