KittenA moggy in your tank makes engine purr
24/08/2000

RSPCA staff are hoping that the hitch-hiking days of their latest guest are over.

The kitten was probably looking for a cosy place to snooze when it crawled into the engine compartment of a car in York.

But the ten-week-old animal ended up clinging on for its life during a 300-mile journey to Carlisle and back, via Manchester.

It was only when the driver got back to York that he heard a desperate mewing from under the bonnet.

On investigation, he discovered the creature - shaken and dishevelled but otherwise unhurt.

It is not known if the cat was under the bonnet for entire journey, but it is now in the care of the animal home in Landing Lane, York.

RSPCA officer Sue Edmond said: "He's fine. He was just hungry and a bit distressed, because he was meowing a lot, but he has no injuries."
