Unsworth return boost

There is a double programme at the weekend where Castle Eden and Murton will fight it out for pole position.

Currently, Castle Eden are ahead of their rivals by eight points before their next fixtures against improving Seaham Park and Ryhope. Influential all-rounder Allan Unsworth's return to the line up boosts Eden's chances of taking maximum points.

Current champions Murton can't call upon Philip Grimwood or Andy Upperton for their home game to Washington this afternoon. It is unlikely the pair will be available for their following game at Boldon CA.

Silksworth are top and after going to Boldon CA, are at home to one-time leaders Bill Quay. The absence of captain Stephen Lobban is a blow for the Wearsiders and second XI's Philip Middlemiss has been handed the role of filling his skipper's shoes.

Improved Seaham Park are currently fourth with two wins and three draws from six attempts but will be up against a tough Castle Eden side, which includes Tony Cunliffe and the experienced Alan Dick.

On Sunday, the Park make the short trip to face Peterlee who have Paul Hemmingway and Mark Simpson returning to the side. Peterlee's other fixture is at Bill Quay this afternoon.

Easington will have to get along without Stuart Wilson, while Paul Elliott drops into the second XI. Brian Fenwick and Andrew Sykes are included at home to Dawdon, while tomorrow, Glen Francis takes over from Price at Houghton.

Former Philadelphia all-rounder Jon Grant is named in the Houghton line up for their two games with Ryhope and Easington. Stephen Robinson's sire has played better than their result suggests and a first win could be on the cards this weekend.

Dawdon have tasted success on just one occasion and they line up at Easington and at Washington with a full strength side.

With Graeme Smith away, Ryhope call up Adam Swansbury for this afternoon's home match with Houghton. The pair exchange places on Sunday when Ryhope have home advantage over Castle Eden. Washington are looking for a replacement professional after Billy Brownsword decided to return to Philadelphia. Anyone interested should contact secretary Adrian Ward on (0191) 4154764.

Andrew Wilkie and Bill Plenderlook likely to miss out at Murton. Washington's other game is at home to Dawdon.

Bill Quay make three changes for their double with Peterlee and at Silksworth. Paul Bentham resumes while Craig Falcus and Andrew Kirby are promoted. Michael Orridge cannot play and Kevin South and Graeme Hudson drop into the second team.
