Silksworth aim to halt Murton's chargeSilksworth could be on the move, but their first priority is to halt Murton's charge towards the championship. Next Sunday, an extraordinary general meeting will be held in the clubhouse at 7pm to decide whether to take up an offer from Sunderland Council to provide a new ground and facilities in nearby Silksworth Lane. "The Council want our land and we have the opportunity of a new field, pavilion, scorebox and covers," said spokesman Howard Middlemiss. "It is a big decision but perhaps a once in a lifetime opportunity to have the best that money can buy. We are leaving the decision to our members and I'm urging everyone to attend." Today, fifth-top Silksworth host leaders Murton, who aim to win the title for a third successive season. The home side miss Scott Davison or Craig Nield but early-order batsman Phil Smailes has recovered from injury and Michael Waterson is available. With Ian King free to play, Murton are back to full strength as they defend the only unbeaten record, having won seven and drawn seven games. Castle Eden are on the heels of Murton, who came out on top when the pair met in the Frank Lees Trophy on Wednesday. They visit second-bottom Boldon CA and welcome back Gerard Magee to a first-choice line-up. Boldon, comfortably ahead of basement side Houghton, have Sean Erskine and Andrew O'Connell in for David Downes and Stuart Johnson. Seaham Park remain in contention having won the same number of games as the top two. They make the short journey to Ryhope with all-rounder Alan Dick taking over from David Moorhead. Bill Quay visit Dawdon, who are up to fourth, showing several alterations and will be stronger with the inclusion of Jeff Tudor, who recently scored unbeaten centuries in successive days. Matthew Dench, David Hunt, Alan Rackstraw and Michael Orridge also make the line-up. Houghton go to Washington, two places above. A blow to the chances of the visitors is the absence through injury of Ian Hauxwell. Also missing is Paul Elliott but former captain Kenny Marriott has returned to the club following a two-year absence. Washington bring in John Mitchell, Matthew Garrod and Phil Hooper, an under-15 player who recently scored 99. The trio replace Mark Lee, Andy Gibson and Steve Bilton. Last year Peterlee won just once all season and ended bottom but have four victories to date and are comfortably placed mid-table before the home game with neighbours Easington. Back |
