Season 2005

SEPTEMBER

10/09/05 Weather plays havoc as programme is decimated
LEAGUE cricket in the North East was just about washed out on Saturday and by and large only those sides challenging for honours or fighting against relegation played.

03/09/05 Hetton Lyons firmly in the driving seat
HETTON Lyons took a step nearer to their first title when they raised their game against South Shields to successfully chase a target of 222. Whitburn retained what is now surely a faint interest when they won at Felling.

AUGUST

27/08/05 All eyes focussed on the battle at Whitburn
THE situation at the top of the league remains unchanged but with Hetton Lyons beating thirdplaced Eppleton it now looks as though the title will go to either the Lyons or Whitburn.

20/08/05 Status quo remains as Lyons lead
The top four teams again won so it remains as you were.

13/08/05 Hetton increase advantage
WITH the programme again severely interrupted by rain, Hetton Lyons would be disappointed at not being able to pick up maximum points.

06/08/05 Lyons and Whitburn preserve the status quo
It's as-you-were at the top of the league but both Hetton Lyons and Whitburn were involved in close calls.

JULY

23/07/05 Whitburn cut Lyons lead at the top to seven points
Whitburn and Eppleton retained a strong interest in the championship race when both of them emerged victorious, writes Bob Gidney.

16/07/05 Lyons extend their lead
Hetton Lyons remain top of the the table and their lead was extended with South Hetton beating Whitburn.

09/07/05 Lyons keep their lead at the top
With Hetton Lyons and Whitburn both winning, the former retain their five-point lead at the top.

02/07/05 Lyons lead by five points
Hetton Lyons have taken over at the top and lead by five points.

JUNE

27/06/05 Lyons keep the pressure on Whitburn
JUST two points separate Whitburn from nearest rivals Hetton Lyons after the league leaders were involved in an amazing conclusion to their game with Felling.

18/06/05 Lyons send Whitburn crashing to their first defeat
Foster's Durham Senior League: Hetton Lyons won the game of the day sending Whitburn to their first defeat of the season, writes Bob Gidney.

11/06/05 Whitburn edge to victory in run bonanza
Championship chasers Whitburn and Eppleton scored runs freely but, the latter were unable to turn their runs into victory against Hetton Lyons, writes Bob Gidney.

04/06/05 Whitburn's lead at the top cut
Whitburn saw their lead at the top cut to nine points when both Eppleton and Hetton Lyons won against South Shields and Durham City respectively.

MAY

22/05/05 Tight at the top as four fight it out
Just two points separate the top four teams with Eppleton, Hetton Lyons and Whitburn all winning.

15/05/05 Robson leads by example for Horden
Horden extended their lead at the top when they overwhelmed Durham City, with skipper Andrew Robson leading by example as City wickets fell regularly.

08/05/05 Unlucky Lyons are left to rue the weather
All six matches were severely affected by rain. Champions Burnmoor laboured throughout their innings against Hetton Lyons who will be counting themselves unlucky that the heavy rain intervened.

01/05/05 Hetton Lyons roar to victory over Felling
There were wins for Horden, Marsden and Hetton Lyons on the opening day of the season.
