Horden extended their lead at the top when they overwhelmed Durham City, with skipper Andrew Robson leading by example as City wickets fell regularly.

The leaders needed 30.2 overs to conclude the first innings as Robson (5-20) and Nadeem Khan were in total control. In contrast, Horden lost little time to complete the rout - victory was achieved with just 51 balls, Stephen McCoy cracking an unbeaten 38 (five fours and a six).

Champions Burnmoor registered their first win of the season when they rattled up the day's highest score at Felling.

Openers Chris Ellison and Barry Dews mauled the home attack and both hit centuries as they put together 229. Ellison's 133 included 15 boundaries and five sixes while his partner hit a straight 100.

Youngster Alex Ludlow with 5-21 proved a match winner with the ball and with Ian Conn's support (3-39) the Moors won handsomely.

Whitburn were also first time winners, beating neighbours Marsden by two wickets.

After Chris Mann (43) had ensured a bright start to the Marsden innings quick wickets saw them reduced to 88-5. Philip Bell (73) then produced a rescue act which saw his side eventually end on 183.

When Neil Ayre and Ashley Thorpe (40) added 50 Whitburn were in the ascendency but Marsden bowled straight making victory difficult. Whitburn had enough in reserve though and ended winners by two wickets.

Hetton Lyons were unable to mount a challenge to Boldon's total of 160 and were well adrift. A solid start provided promise for Boldon but they ended with a total lower than they would have liked, but Hetton Lyons were unable to respond positively.

Early wickets and the loss of Sean Birbeck saw the Lyons unable to launch a serious reply in the final hour and both sides collected ten points.

The game between South Shields and South Hetton ebbed and flowed and both sides placed themselves in a winning position but lacked the killer instinct.

The bulk of South Hetton's runs came from a 162 run partnership between Ashok Patel (89 not out) and John Pendlington (73) which enabled an early declaration after 48 overs.

It looked to be a good decision with Shields on 78 for four but Lindsay Cullen began to take control. He cracked ten fours and two sixes before losing his wicket and South Hetton clawed their way back into a winning position. At the close a mere five runs separated the sides.

Eppleton moved into second place with a convincing win over Seaham Harbour. Opener David Leslie contributed 67 in the Harbour score of 155 with former Seaham player Stuart Lacey and skipper Lee Welch both picking up three wickets.

With Jim Daley (76 not out) and Sean Ezzard in fine form, Eppleton raced to a nine-wicket win.
