ORANGE NEW VOICES
ADULT CATEGORY

Closing date: May 31, 2006

The Competition
This competition has been organised by Inscribe Media Limited, of Darlington, supported by The Northern Echo, Orange PLC and Darlington Arts Centre.
1 Short stories are invited of no more than 3,000 words. There is no theme.
2. Entries must be by writers aged 17 or over
3. The first prize will be £600, the second £250 and third prize £150
4. Entry is free.
The organisers/judges will not enter into any correspondence.
We regret that entries cannot be returned

RULES
Entries:
1. Should be typed on A4 paper, using one side only, with pages numbered, all pages to be clipped together
2. Should not bear any author's identification but must be accompanied by a separate sheet of paper for each entry, bearing the entrant's name and address, the name of the story, and a declaration that it is the author's original unaided work
3. Will remain the copyright of the author
4. Must not have been previously published, broadcast or performed or have previously won a similar competition
5. Should be sent to John Dean, The Short Story Competition, care of The Northern Echo Newsdesk, PO Box 14, Darlington, County Durham DL1 1NF, to arrive no later than May 31, 2006.
6. Will not be returned
7. No more than two entries per person in any category will be permitted
8. Members of staff of Inscribe Media, The Northern Echo, Orange PLC or Darlington Arts Centre, or their families, may not enter
9 Failure to observe these rules will result in disqualification
10 Winners will be informed by post and also announced in The Northern Echo and on its website
